When I was around five-years-old, we moved to a Victorian home in our town's historic west end. After living in a tiny mobile home with my mother and father, this was like a castle in my eyes. With the arrival of my sister, we had needed a bigger place. Dad couldn't get over the good deal he'd gotten on this one.
From the very first night, I felt that we were not the only ones there. Out of the corner of my eye, I would see shadows that would fade just as I would turn to focus on them. Then there was the constant sensation of being watched by unseen eyes.....................
We had been living in the house about six months when I saw her. I opened up my closet one morning to get my clothes, and instinctively my eyes went to the far corner. There, sitting as though she had been waiting for something, was a little girl who appeared to be around my age. The first thing I noticed was how grey her skin was. It wasn't scary, she just looked ill. She was dressed like my Holly Hobby doll, with a long sleeved old fashioned calico dress on. I felt sorry for her. She looked like she desperately needed comfort. I began taking the dolls out of the box I kept them in. I handed one to her, and we began to play.
From that moment on it seems, she was always around, she mainly kept to my bedroom, but I would often see her in other parts of the house as well. When my family would sit down to dinner, or my sister and I were dressing up for Halloween, or blowing out candles on my birthday cake......I would look across the way and see her. I wanted to reach out so she could join in the fun, but it seemed no one else could see her. My parents chalked it up to my "imaginary friend".
The older I got, the more ghosts I saw. There seemed to be no end to the entities that existed within the confines of the old rambling house. I remember seeing an old woman in the kitchen. My mother was a clean freak, and I think this particular ghost was pleased by that. I would see her while Mom was bustling around, getting ready for a holiday dinner, and the old woman would smile. Years later, when my mother finally admitted that she had strange experiences as well, she said, that often when she was in the kitchen, she would smell old fashioned lilac perfume.
Not every spirit there was benign, though. I always felt the presence of something evil and I believe the little girl did too. The times I saw her in the main part of the house, she would always glance fearfully toward the basement door. I was literally unable to go down in that basement by myself. The fear would paralyze me.
I learned to keep my experiences to myself, as any mention of them would get my parents started on my "active imagination". Anything that they experienced that was paranormal, they would do their best to debunk with a natural explanation. I had their "natural explanation"...............we had ghosts!
The negative atmosphere that was in the house increased after my grandfather passed away. My sister and I foolishly decided to play with a Ouija board, seeing if we could communicate with him. We had just asked, "Papa, are you there?" when the door to my bedroom slammed shut! I tried to open it, and I could feel someone pulling the door so I couldn't.
I kept pushing on the door, until finally it gave way. My sister and I ran out of my bedroom and into hers. We were too terrified to speak. I slept in her room for the next several nights until I got the courage to go back in there. The Ouija board was on my bed where we had left it. I held my breath, picked it up, and ran downstairs to throw it in the trash.
To this day, I regret that action. The board was not properly closed and the negative energy in that house began to multiply. The ghosts that I saw, including the little girl, began looking fearful and distracted. In this dimension, my family began to fall apart. My parent's marriage, which had been a happy one, began to deteriorate after my grandfather's death. I began acting out, and my ability to see spirits began to anger me.
Through it all, the little girl remained. She had never grown older, and yet I felt more connected to her than friends my own age. I wanted to be normal. I wanted everything I saw to just go away.
When my parents divorced, it was decided that my father would stay there and my sister and I would move with my mother to another house. I was glad to be moving, but in my heart I knew the little girl would have to stay behind.
I continued to see her the few times I visited my dad, and then his house was sold. I don't go back there, as I still feel the negative is too powerful. I do however pray every day for whoever lives there now, that they are able to protect themselves against that negative. I pray someone came along who knew how to help the spirits there to cross over. I especially pray for my constant companion while I was there...........and that the little girl found peace.
Incidentally, there was a book written about the many hauntings in my town. It was in that book that I discovered the land my former house was built on had once been the potter's field for a cemetery long forgotten.
Forgotten by everyone...........except the spirits of those buried there.

A History of Paranormal Violence

Perhaps the spirit or maybe…demon lived on the land before the house was built. No one ever died in the house I grew up in, nor did any other family live there before us. Yet, how did this spirit get in? It could have rolled in like one of the local Arizona tumbleweeds that usually frequented our front door, which over the years I grew so accustomed to. Or maybe what I encountered was a long passed Native American Indian, a Papago Indian to be precise, which was one of the many historical tribes dating back hundreds of years ago that lived in Arizona. Could the house have been built on an old Papago burial site?
The house was built in 1977, three years before I was born. Even though it was out in the middle of the desert, the house stood strong and immense, compared to other houses in town. Casa Grande, a town too small to even be considered a town. Our house was always referred to as “That huge red brick house on the way out to the fairgrounds.” But in no way did the house prospect any sign of evil. It was a place where cows, horses, dogs and cats, bicycles, motorcycles, slip and slides and a basketball court all had their domain. The place was our playground haven where there were always kids at the house doing what we do best…being kids.
But, when I turned 5-years-old, and my older brother and sister had gone away and left me. My Dad repeatedly was coming home late from partying with his buddy’s, brothers, and from what my Mom seemed to have figured out…other women. I would hear her scream at him, as she would ask him who the other woman was her sister saw him with, all the while mania filtering the house with plates and shattering glass everywhere I could hear. During this time, I felt very alone and scared. I would find myself going into one of the many bathrooms or storage rooms in the house and sitting in the dark at times. These moments of being utterly alone in the shadows of the beast, always occurred at night. So when I tell you the most frightening part of my story occurred during the day while I was waiting for my grilled cheese sandwich my Mom was making for me for lunch; as I watched Grover teach me how to tie my shoes on Sesame Street, it seems very weird.
There were six bathrooms in the house. The one that lured me in was the hallway bathroom between where my Mom was (in the kitchen), and where I was (in my Mom’s bedroom). Something told me to always run past that bathroom to the kitchen whenever I heard sounds coming from inside. I would always sprint down the hallway and make it to the kitchen, but not this time. As I approached the halfway mark, my body froze and became paralyzed. I felt as if I were being dragged into the hallway bathroom, literally. I tried to cry out but pressure built on my chest not allowing words to escape. I woke up later in the storage closet inside the bathroom to my Mom frantically shaking me to wake up because she couldn’t find me. I was in complete darkness when she found me and have no recollection of the time span I had been in the closet.
I really don’t know any logical explanation for this occurrence. What happened to me and what was pulling me against my will still keeps me wondering to this day. All I know is that it was real and in no way shape or form some type of childhood fantasy I conjured up. I only wish it had been. Nothing ever happened to me in that house again. But ever since then, something changed.
For years I wondered if this black entity followed me throughout my life, as if there was a black cloud that cast itself on me and never went away. But, barely recently in my life I have accepted what happened was a long time ago and it’s in my past and that’s where it needs to stay. Many times, we believe that bad circumstances in our lives render some connection to what happened to us in the past. But what we don’t realize is that all these thoughts are just illusory correlations our minds create in order to cope with the trauma that’s embedded itself within. If only we could all face our fears and overcome certain traumatic memories, we would all be a little better off.

Demons: A General Overview
Not all hauntings are ghosts and not all ghosts are demons, the origin and history of demons; and determining whether a paranormal experience is that of a disembodied human spirit or something more sinister.
Let me first tell you that demonic hauntings are very rare. Fewer than 3 percent of all actual hauntings are of demonic nature. Despite what you see on the Internet or television, these types of hauntings are not common. They are a whole different ballpark. Demons can actually cause great physical harm if they feel so inclined, but again this is extremely rare. Just because an angry ghost tries to frighten you by throwing objects, making loud noises, or messing with your household appliances, this does not make it a demon.
Now that we got that out of the way, I’ll give you a brief background on demons. In Greece they believed in entities called daemons. They weren’t actually evil but at the same time not very good either. They were considered to be below gods but above humans. Many times they were known to cause mischief. In many other ancient religions they were considered mere trouble makers and nothing more. The Roman Catholic Church uses names of gods of pagan religions, including gods of ancient Babylon, as names of demons: Baal, Beelzebub, etc.
In the belief of the Catholic Church and conservative Christian Churches, they believe that demons are fallen angels who followed Satan (Lucifer) in his rebellion against God. Islam believes a being called Ibis created by Allah who was jealous of humans and rebelled. Like the Christian belief, he was cast out of heaven. Now he spends till the end of time tormenting and using persuasion to keep as many humans from heaven as he can. Liberal Christian groups do not believe that demons directly interact with humans or perhaps don’t exist at all. They believe evil is more of a force in the world the same as good.
At SPIRIT we do believe that evil manifests itself in a physical embodiment (in some cases appearing as a person). We believe they feed off fear and this gives them strength. Scientifically there is not much that is actually known. Again demon hauntings are rare and in most cases are probably too dangerous to do any lengthy investigation. Getting the demon to leave should be the primary goal, not interaction with it or studying it. When in doubt get out of your house. Do demons actually exist is a matter of opinion; however we at SPIRIT believe there are evil spirits who only want to cause harm. There are documented cases of demonic type haunting, where people were tormented both physically and psychologically. These type of hauntings aren’t consistent with any normal type of haunting.
How do you know you are being haunted by a demon? Well people who have had demonic encounters say that you just know. You can feel unnatural heaviness and foreboding all around. People have smelt sulfur where that smell should not be. People have been left with sudden burns or have been viciously attacked by unseen forces. Some have suffered from horrible nightmares. When one of SPIRITS investigators was a teenager she saw red eyes appear in her bathroom window. When she looked away there were hundreds of black spiders crawling towards her. I’ve even heard accounts where people were sexually molested by unseen forces. Also the people who actually experienced demonic hauntings have felt their families being torn apart and drastic changes in personalities. Demons are known to possess someone’s body. Although some of the scenes in the movie the Exorcist are based on factual exorcism cases, it is a bit over the top in other scenes. There are reports on the net relating to these topics as well. Also demons do come across as a regular haunting (the ghost of a person) at first, but become more aggressive as you become more afraid.
Again let me point out that just because your faucets turn on by themselves, you get touched by some unseen force, or there are loud bangs in your house, this does not necessarily mean it’s a demon. There are other types of negative hauntings. An angry person, who dies angry, may make an angry ghost. There are angry spirits who do aim to scare you but that is about the extent of their powers. There are also poltergeist cases that can be very dramatic. A poltergeist is not a demon. Yes they can move things around in your home, they can be physical with you, and yes they can be quite frightening. What is a poltergeist you ask? Well the main theory behind these cases does hold the most water. This theory states that poltergeist cases are usually manifestations of strong emotions emanating from an adolescent, usually a female. It sounds nuts but almost all poltergeist activity centers around adolescents. All poltergeist hauntings do center on a particular person. So in these cases this theory may in fact be true.
Let’s get back to demons. So you think that you’re being haunted by a demon. What should you do? Well in this case it may be wise to find yourself a real sensitive. Yes a sensitive is the same as a psychic, but a lot of real psychics like the word sensitive. It means they are more sensitive to the world around them. They can sometimes sense things in another plain of existence if you will. You should however do research first on the sensitive or psychic you are thinking of using. You don’t want to be taken advantage of. First of all you want a sensitive who deals in these cases preferably. Perhaps find someone who has some experience. A person with a good spiritual background would be nice. Keep in mind some sensitive’s can not tell the difference between a ghost of a person and demon. So particularly it may be wise to make sure of that as well. You may look into getting a blessing for your house. It may be a priest, or a pastor, or maybe a shaman. It depends on your preference. Make sure the person blessing your home is very caring of your need. Some religious leaders won’t help and take you as a fool. Afterwards you could burn sage or sprinkle sea salt around the outer walls of your house. Hopefully this may drive the demon away, but sometimes it may make it angrier. That’s why I think it would be wise to find a sensitive with some experiences in these cases. They can give you some information on the nature of the demon and steps you can take to drive it away. You could even contact my team at S-P-I-R-I-T.org. You want to find someone who not only takes you seriously but the situation as well. Demons are very real and can be very dangerous.

Amityville Horror: Investigation Findings
Thousands of articles have been written to try and explain the unfortunate events which occurred at the 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville oceanside home. It is arguably one of the most famous Haunted House controversies in the world. But, unfortunately controversy has rendered invalidity. Some say there were never any supernatural forces present in the house, others adamantly profess that there was an evil lurking among those grounds that was darker than this world could fathom. Yet, who's to say what strange events actually took place before and after the DeFeo Family Murders.According to world renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were brought in for the Amityville Case, they believe the house was a catalyst, a gateway to the depths of hell. "Whatever is here is, in my estimation, most definitely of a negative nature. It has nothing to do with anyone who had once walked the Earth in human form. It is right from the bowels of the Earth.", insists Lorraine Warren. "Whatever is here, is able to move around at will. It doesn't have to stay here, but I think it's a resting place." Demonologist Ed Warren, said he felt an evil inhuman presence all over. But, the Warrens were only one of the many that had their own personal supernatural experiences within the surroundings of the Amityville home.
A friend of the Warrens, Psychic "time-walker," Mary Pascarella, who is defined to be a person who is able to sense, and sometimes visualize, past events in a particular location, said "I began to say my prayers and I was saying the 'Our Father'", recalls Mary Pascarella in a 2002 interview. "I looked out of the door...and as I was saying the 'Our Father'...there was a group of figures saying the 'Our Father' backward."
Mary was not the only one who experienced strange events that night. Channel 5 cameraman, Steve Petropolis, reportedly suffered a rash of heart palpitations and shortness of breath while climbing the staircase. The Warrens say they also felt a "cold spot" on the staircase.
During the first seance, Mary Pascarella also became ill and was ushered out of the room. "There seems to be some kind of black shadow that forms a head, and it moves", Mary claimed. "And as it moves, I feel personally threatened." Another psychic, Alberta Riley, made similar claims during the seance: "It's upstairs in the bedroom. What's here makes your heart speed up. My heart's pounding." Could this have been an evil demonic spirit they sensed on multiple occasions, or could this have been, partly the frightened and tormented young soul of 9-year-old John-Matthew DeFeo, pleading for contact from anyone?
The posted picture above is a timed still photo taken in the upstairs area of the house, where a boy resembling John-Matthew stands in the doorway to the room where he once slept before he was brutally murdered. There were no children present in the house during the time of the Amityville Investigation.
An abundant amount of evidence has been gathered to allegedly prove that there was a supernatural force plaguing the Amityville home. Yet still we can't prove if this notorious case was of true paranormal events, or just an easy money making scheme.
With all the strange yet fascinating evidence found, it almost seems impossible to believe it null.

Ghost Adventures vs Ghost Hunters
Why can't those paranormal shows ever catch anything significant on TV? Not entirely true.
Entering into the realm of the paranormal has always been ever so fascinating to me. For many years now, I have followed up on every television series which depict the world of the paranormal. I love the hauntingly unexplained and can't get enough of it! So, it comes as no surprise that I watch Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters religiously (and Paranormal State, but that's for future blogs to come)....so much so that my boyfriend is disgusted with the ghost topic all together. As long, as Ghost Hunters has been an investigative series, I've watched, analyzed and derived my own findings, and have enjoyed every second of it. Until, Ghost Adventures came along.
I was immediately hooked from the moment I saw the first episode! And why wouldn't I? The show has every element you can ask for in a ghost series. The suspense, the unknown, the remarkable guerrilla style footage, the evidence, validity and PASSION that Ghost Hunters, I regret to say, has lacked for sometime. I know, many say, Ghost Hunters has a more valid scientific approach, and they HELP people. And Ghost Adventures lacks solid scientific investigation procedures. But what good is the investigation if there's no passion? While Ghost Hunters do their monotonous job like a 9 to 5'er with a camera crew feasible for the taping of the Oscars. Are these actors or investigators? How do they ever expect to find any evidence anymore, with so many unnecessary bodies obstructing any possible findings? Makes me think if the entire show is scripted and/or staged altogether.
The reason that Ghost Adventures works and Ghost Hunters no longer does, is that the drive for the unknown is what keeps Zak, Aaron and Nick hungry for more, therefore, the viewer is anticipating that bite. Whereas, Ghost Hunters lost their appetite years ago.
Come on Jason and Grant.........get back on the prowl!!!!!!
If you're too bored watching Ghost Hunters or you've watched every episode aired on Ghost Adventures........try your own Paranormal Investigation!

How to Investigate Paranormal Activity

How to Investigate a Paranormal Activity or Experience
from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
Have you ever felt the hair on the back of your neck stand up? Have doors slammed shut with no one else in the house? Why not approach the situation logically and maybe learn something cool about it?
Steps
- Look for a logical explanation. As cool as it would be to have a paranormal experience, if you don't investigate the logical explanations you'll always have that edge of doubt in your mind. Look for the everyday explanations. For example, if doors are closing when no one is near, is there heavy or moderate air flow? Are the hinges loose? Is the door jam crooked? If there are "orbs" in pictures you took around the house, stop to think whether you recently dusted the room. The only real way to find evidence of the paranormal is to actively try and disprove your experience. That way if you really cannot find a logical explanation, it means it really must have been something unusual. The best paranormal investigators will always describe themselves as sceptics.
- Research your location. If logic can't explain your experience, it's time for some research. Search for things like deaths or other traumatic events on the property, other reports of paranormal activity at that location, and other locations with similar manifestations.
- Try to duplicate the experience. Go back to the location under similar circumstances, perhaps with a friend to act as a witness. Take recording equipment, cameras and EMF detectors. See if the same event happens again and if you can record it in any way.
- Try to capture the experience in a different way. If you heard voices, try to snap photos or run film in that location as well as recording the EVP (see the Wikipedia link at the bottom for information on EVP.) If you saw a figure, set up sound and temperature recording devices as well. The more ways you can document the haunting, the better.
- Remain objective. Keep your mind open to all possibilities. Neither dismiss your experiences as "just imagination", nor accept each bump and flash as proof of a haunting. Weird things happen all the time. The fun part is figuring out why!
- Call in the Pros. If you have significant evidence of a haunting (photos, recordings, multiple witnesses, etc) call in the paranormal professionals. Check with your local university's psychology department, the newspaper or even the Yellow pages. But be careful. The field of paranormal investigation is awash with frauds and con men, so check out your expert's credentials thoroughly!
Tips
- Never be scared to ask questions, even if you think no one is there.
- Stand by your findings. You went through all that work, at least get credit for it.
- Be professional: A well-groomed and intelligent person is more convincing than an unkempt, raving lunatic.
- Be prepared for ridicule: If you make your findings or research public you will be laughed at.
- Maintain caution in what you deal with. (Do you want to star in a recreation of The Exorcist?)
- Read and study: Monsters by John Michael Greer is a good start.
Warnings
- Don't try to investigate paranormal activity in dangerous places like abandoned buildings or high crime areas. The ghosts aren't the danger, the living breathing people and crumbling floors are.
